Laws and Restrictions in Montenegro
Montenegro's existing gambling laws are based on the legal provisions on games of chance. The Ministry of Finance, and specifically its substructure known as the Games of Chance Administration, is in charge of enforcing the rules. It is in charge of issuing gaming concessions for the various gambling products that are legally available in the country. When individuals play online games, they take into account a lot of aspects of how the internet operates as a medium.
An online live casino operator will need a three-year license with a two-year extension option. They get a three-year license, but bookmakers get three years with the option of two more years. The license further demands proof of ownership of a physical casino. Once this is established, the operator is issued a license without the need for additional paperwork or payments. All operators must meet financial obligations relevant to the niche in which they operate.
Game Concession Needed and Playing Offshore
An operator must first enter a concession for the types of games offered before offering them online. In addition, for real-time data and stat uploads, the operator's system must be connected to the regulator's system. It's worth noting that only Montenegrin-registered businesses are eligible to apply for gaming privileges.
Foreign-registered casinos are unable to gain official permission to provide games to Montenegrins. Hence, it is technically illegal to play at foreign internet casinos, but this isn't enforced. There are no additional requirements or barriers to registering an account for Montenegrins who would like to play on overseas gambling sites. Montenegro levies a 15% tax on wins, which is deducted at the source. This is one of the reasons why several Montenegrins prefer offshore locations.
