Azerbaijan is a nation lying between Eastern Europe and Western Asia. The country is considered part of the Caucasus region. The Caspian Sea lies to the east of Azerbaijan. Russia is to the north, and Georgia can be found in the northwest. Armenia is west, and Iran lies south of the country.
Azerbaijan is known in the region for its large oil and gas reserves. It is also an important country for moving energy between continents. Baku is a well-developed capital, and most people speak Azerbaijani. Natural gas often comes from the ground resulting in wildfires. The most famous tourist site for this phenomenon is Yanar Dağ (or “Burning Mountain“).
