Malaysian or Malaysian Malay refers to the Malay language used in Malaysia. Most of the Malaysian population of over thirty-one million speaks Standard Malaysian. In Malaysia and neighboring countries such as Brunei and Singapore, it's one of the working languages. It's also widely spoken in remote destinations such as Thailand's southern areas and the Philippines' Palawan islands.
In Malaysia, the language is a mandatory subject in schools. The term Malay is actually an umbrella term for every dialect in Malaysia. It's also one of the top ten most spoken languages in the world, with over 170 million second-language speakers and seventy-five million native speakers.
