New Jersey has taken steps to combat problem gambling among its residents. This is after DGE (the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement) announced its two new tools to protect players in the Garden State from gambling-related harm.

New Jersey Launches Self-Exclusion Tools to Minimize Problem Gambling

Players who want to stop participating in gambling activities like online casino games can now directly call the regulator at a new toll-free hotline. Customers can self-exclude themselves from gambling activities at in-person venues and regulated online live casinos

DGE adds that users of the new service can schedule face-to-face meetings with its representatives. Even more convenient, these players can contact the regulator and schedule a live video chat. The DGE claims that allowing users to complete the process without leaving their homes will help encourage more players to express their problem gambling habits.

Besides the self-exclusion tool, the regulator says it will soon launch its new responsible gaming home page on its website. According to the regulator, this will be a more convenient hub for players and operators in New Jersey to access information.

The website will include information such as:

  • Self-exclusion
  • DGE responsible gaming rules
  • Best practices for operators

The website will also include yearly reports from Rutgers University concerning the effects of online gambling and sports betting while examining betting patterns among all players.

Back in April, New Jersey's Attorney General (Matthew Platkin) and the DGE Director (David Rebuck) announced new responsible gambling efforts. Part of the new plan was to simplify access to problem gambling tools and introduce new advertising standards for operators.

Commitment to Helping Problem Gamblers

Speaking while announcing the new tools, New Jersey's AG said that the state has always been a gaming leader in the United States. He added that New Jersey was the country's first regulated gambling jurisdiction after Nevada and the first to legalize online gambling.

Platkin continued:

"We are now focusing on making our pioneering state the standard in responsible gaming practices. These efforts underscore our commitment to helping problem gamblers by expanding the entry points for self-exclusion and other methods to receive assistance."

DGE's Director, David Rebuck, said:

"We hope the new tools will help to further reduce the risk of problem gambling. By promoting responsible gaming practices, we can help keep gaming an enjoyable and entertaining activity for all."
