Pai Gow is a domino-based casino game first invented in China, and later popularized by American casinos. The game is played with a set of 32 dominoes and its objective is to build two separate hands, containing four tiles each. The player's hand must rank higher than the banker's, in order to win the round.
The rules of Pai Gow are fairly simple and straightforward. The game starts with all 32 pieces being shuffled, and then each player is dealt four tiles. In order to build two separate hands, the player must divide the tiles into two groups of two, plus two groups of three tiles. The two pairs must be higher than the three-tile hands, otherwise the latter would become the highest-ranking combination instead. Each combination is evaluated according to the highest-ranking tile, which is called the "pung" or "kong" and must be higher than the banker's.
