In short
-
1.06%
Banker has the lowest house edge on a standard table, even after the 5% commission.

Roadmaps, streaks and betting systems change nothing in the house edge.
1. Bet Banker and skip the Tie
Live baccarat bets at a glance
The Banker bet is the cheapest bet on the table. The Tie costs about 13 times more per dollar staked than Banker.
| Bet | Pays | House edge | Expected cost per $1,000 staked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Banker | 0.95:1 (5% commission) | 1.06% | $10.60 |
| Player | 1:1 | 1.24% | $12.40 |
| Tie | 8:1 | 14.36% | $143.60 |
| Player Pair / Banker Pair | 11:1 | 10.36% | $103.60 |
House edges: standard 8-deck punto banco maths (Wizard of Odds, baccarat basics). RTP and limits: our game pages.
Banker wins slightly more often than Player because it draws last. The 5% commission takes back most of that advantage but not all of it, so Banker stays the cheapest bet at 1.06%. Player is close behind at 1.24%. The Tie pays 8:1, but at 9.52% frequency it returns only about 85.6% of what you stake.
2. Read the table rules before you sit down
Not every live baccarat table pays the same way. Three differences matter:
- No-commission tables (for example No Commission Baccarat) pay Banker 1:1 but only half when Banker wins with a total of 6. The Banker edge rises to about 1.46%, while Player stays at 1.24%.
- Multiplier tables such as Lightning Baccarat add a fee to your bet or lower base payouts to fund the multipliers. Golden Wealth Baccarat, for example, lists a 97.85% RTP against 98.94% for a standard table.
- Speed tables keep the same maths but deal more hands per hour, so the same stake costs more per hour.
3. Treat side bets as small extras
Pair bets pay 11:1 and carry a 10.36% house edge on 8 decks. Perfect Pair, Dragon Bonus and similar bets have their own pay tables, and the side bets with a published house edge all cost more than Banker. If you enjoy them, use a fixed small amount instead of a share of your main bet.
4. Myths that cost baccarat players money
Roadmaps predict the next hand. The Big Road and the other roadmaps record past results. Each hand is dealt from the shoe independently of the last one, so a run of six Banker wins does not make Player due.
Card counting works in baccarat. Counting trims the house edge only slightly: the Wizard of Odds finds that a basic count lowers the combined house edge from 1.06% to about 1.01%, using an 8-deck shoe. It does not turn the game in your favour.
Betting systems improve your odds. Martingale, Paroli or 1-3-2-4 only change how much you stake after a win or loss. The house edge on each hand stays the same, so the expected loss grows with the total you stake.
Live baccarat is rigged. Live baccarat comes from studios such as Evolution, Pragmatic Play and Playtech, with real cards dealt on camera. Play only at licensed casinos and check the licence in the casino's footer.
Baccarat is only for high rollers. Our game pages list live baccarat tables from $0.20 a hand (Fortune 6 Baccarat) up to $250,000 (Salon Privé Baccarat).
5. Set limits before the first hand
Decide your session budget and a stop time before you join a table. Live baccarat moves fast, especially at speed tables, and chasing losses with bigger bets only increases what you stake at the same house edge. Bonus terms can count live baccarat at a low rate toward wagering, so check the contribution before you play with bonus money.

Questions and answers
How do you get a perfect pair in Live Baccarat?
A perfect pair is a side bet that wins if the first two cards dealt form a pair of the same rank and suit.
What is the best bet in live baccarat?
Banker. It has a 1.06% house edge on a standard table after the 5% commission, against 1.24% for Player and 14.36% for the Tie.
Do baccarat patterns or roadmaps help you win?
No. Roadmaps show past results only. Every hand is independent, so no streak makes Player or Banker more likely next time.
Is there skill in live baccarat?
Only in choosing what to bet and how much. The drawing rules are fixed, so you cannot influence the cards.
