Key Takeaways:
- BetHog crypto casino to close by July 31.
- Founders pivot to Sentient Studios.
- New focus is on AI live dealer technology.
- AI blackjack dealer 'Sunny' was a success.
BetHog, the online crypto casino and sportsbook founded by former FanDuel duo Nigel Eccles and Rob Jones, is set to shut down at the end of July. The platform will cease operations on 31 July, less than two years after its launch in November 2024. This decision marks a strategic pivot for its parent company, which will now focus entirely on Sentient Studios and its AI dealer product. Players have been informed they have until the end of the month to withdraw any remaining funds. The company announced the news today (20 July).
Strategic Shift to AI Live Dealer Technology
The company stated the move is "driven by real market demand" for its AI live dealer solutions. Sentient Studios, which was previously announced in April, aims to replace traditional live dealer infrastructure with AI-powered alternatives for online casinos, expanding its presence among live casino software providers. At the time of Sentient Studios' launch, there was no indication that BetHog would halt its operations. The company also confirmed a $10m Series A funding round for Sentient Studios in April, with intentions to use the funds to expand its in-house AI dealer technology and roll out the offering to third-party operators globally.
Sentient Studios' Operational Model and Market Impact
Sentient Studios asserts itself as the "only company with an operational AI dealer product currently on the market." BetHog’s engineering team has already transitioned their focus to Sentient Studios’ AI dealer, with the underlying technology being integrated into the new venture. The B2B platform is designed to enable casino operators to deploy AI-driven live dealers without relying on traditional studio staffing models, reflecting growing demand for live dealer casino games. Sentient Studios operates on a revenue share model, foregoing setup fees, monthly minimums, or long-term contracts to reduce adoption barriers.
This strategic shift follows the successful rollout of AI blackjack dealer ‘Sunny’ with BetHog in October 2025. This product, now available in 12 languages, has become one of the most played real money live blackjack games on the platform. Sentient Studios has already "drawn interest from tier-one operators," with several expected to license the AI dealer offering and go live later this year.
