Texas Hold'em in a poker room is a game between players. In a live casino it becomes a banking game: you and everyone at the table play your own hands against the dealer's. That changes what matters. Reading opponents and bluffing are irrelevant; folding and raising at the right moments are what count.

How Casino Hold'em works

You place an ante and get two cards; the dealer gets two face down, and three community cards are dealt. You then fold, losing the ante, or call to see the turn and river. The best five-card hand from your two cards and the five community cards is compared with the dealer's. An optional Bonus bet pays if your first five cards make a pair of aces or better, with payouts up to 100:1 on the top hands. Check the help screen for the exact call size and the dealer's qualifying rule.

Beginner tip: you should call with most hands. Folding too often gives away antes that a call would win back. A simple rule that loses little against optimal play is to call with any pair or better and with strong draws, and to fold only weak, unconnected hands.

How Ultimate Texas Hold'em works

You place equal Ante and Blind bets, and can add the optional Trips bet. You get one chance to raise. Raise 3x or 4x your ante before the flop, 2x after the flop, or 1x after the river; if you haven't raised by the river, you either bet 1x or fold.

Beginner tips:

  • Raise 4x before the flop with strong starting hands such as any pair from 3s up and any hand with an ace.
  • If you checked pre-flop, raise 2x after the flop when you hit a pair or better using your hole cards.
  • On the river, bet 1x when your hand is likely better than the dealer's possible hands; otherwise fold.

Waiting is cheap in this game, but raising early with the right hands is where most of its value comes from.

Skip most side bets

The Casino Hold'em Bonus bet and the Ultimate Texas Hold'em Trips bet pay well on rare hands and cost more over time than the main game. If you play them, keep them small. Our guide to live casino side bets compares their cost.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Treating the game like player poker and folding marginal hands to "wait for a good spot". Against the dealer, there is no reason to wait.
  • Raising late with hands that should have been raised early in Ultimate Texas Hold'em.
  • Making decisions too slowly and letting the timer act for you; learn the rules in the help screen first.
  • Chasing losses with bigger antes. Set a session budget; see responsible gaming.
