Slovenian or Slovene is a language with over two million speakers worldwide. It's the official language in Slovenia and one of the 24 working languages of the European Union. It's also among the Indo-European languages that belong to the western subgroup of the Slavic branch.
Most Slovenian speakers are from Slovenia. The language is also spoken by minorities in Italy, Venetian Slovenia, and the Province of Trieste. In terms of dialect, it's commonly considered the most diverse. It features over 45 dialects, as noted in the classic Slovene proverb, "Vsaka vas ima svoj glas" (translation; every town has its voice).
