Slovak is Slovakia's official language and one of the European Union's 24 official languages. It's a Slavic language that belongs to the Czech-Slovak group and the Indo-European language family. It has over five million native speakers, many of them ethnic Slovaks. It's also recognized as a minority language with speakers throughout the Slovak diasporic communities in Poland, the Czech Republic, and the United States.
It's an inflected or fusional language and closely related to Russian, Polish, and Czech. It features a flexible word order and a complex morphology system. Excellent command of it introduces one to a network of larger language groups.
