The Estonian language is primarily spoken by the people in Estonia and is a Uralic language of the Finnic branch. It is spoken by roughly one million people in Estonia and a few hundred thousand outside Estonia. It is actually the second most spoken language among the Southern Finnic language group.
Since the Estonian language is not spoken by most people outside Estonia, the country has a very high degree of literacy when it comes to foreign languages, and most people are well versed in at least one other language. Estonian uses the Roman alphabet characters like English with the addition of extra accented characters for more varied pronunciation.
