Bulgarian is Bulgaria's official language. It has over six million speakers in Bulgaria, about 4/5 of the country's population. It's also spoken in neighboring countries such as Romania, Serbia, and Greece. Since 2007, the European Union recognizes it as one of its working languages. It features similarities to the Macedonian and other East South Slavic languages. And of all Slavic languages, it was the first one attested in writing.
People around the world want to study the language because of the promising opportunities associated with it. Having an excellent command of the language opens doors to lucrative government jobs and higher education in the country.
