Poker is one of the most popular card games in South Sudan, with a considerable amount of people playing it in some form or another. It is commonly found in bars, pubs, and even social gatherings. The game has had a long history in the country, with its origins being traced back to the late 19th century.
In South Sudan, poker is typically played with a standard 52-card deck. The most popular variant is Texas Hold'em, also known as the “Cadillac of Poker”. Players attempt to make the best possible hand out of the two hole cards they are dealt and the five community cards revealed by the dealer. Betting is done in rounds and the player with the best hand (or the one who can successfully bluff the other players) wins the pot.
